This unique program is the only one of its kind found in Ontario Community Colleges. Utilizing an immersion-based approach, students have the opportunity to become immersed in the Ojibwe language 95% of the course time.
The Anishinaabe Immersion program truly woke me up – spiritually, culturally, personally. It made me aware of how crucial our language is to every part of us. It is to our identity what air is to breathing. It also made me aware of the responsibilities to all of our relatives are … beyond learning, it has made me a better person. – R. Horton
It has strengthened me as an Anishinaabekwe in knowing how to speak to Gizhe-Manidoo and all of creation in our beautiful language. It has brought Anishinaabemowin home to my heart. Our ceremonies, connection to the land, and spirit of Anishinaabemowin help guide us on a good path to a good life. Miigwech gakina gegoo gaa-miinigoomin, nimiigwechendam. – S. Kabatay
Inclusion in the Anishnaabemowin program has allowed me to learn about a language and culture that is extremely rich, elegant, and very relevant in our society today. I am humbled and enlightened to have been given the opportunity to participate in learning opportunities that encourage examining the interconnectedness of all things and how, as an individual, there are many ways to walk the good path regardless of who you are. It has changed how I perceive the world and how I interact with it. Miigwech to my wonderful teachers, the Elders, and my classmates for sharing with me during this extraordinary journey. – R. Mackie
